Persephone’s return

I wanted to paint something that symbolized rebirth and thought of the story of Persephone returning to earth after being captive and the return of Spring. It seems apt that Easter is also associated with rebirth and renewal as some of my friends were suggesting Estora or Ostara as a title. Estora  was the pagan goddess whose festival seems to have become entangled with the Christian celebration of Easter. This is a large canvas for me 30 by 48 and I have absolutely loved working so big. I’ve deliberately kept the painterly, loose style. Whilst I admire those artists who produce paintings that are photographic in their realism it’s not something I aim for.
